Becoming a Musician

For the human brain, Music is the ultimate challenge.

How do you learn a language where meaning and concepts are abstract, where new rules of semantics can be created or destroyed for every piece and where the communicator needs an external mechanism (aka instruments) to express his/the composer's ideas ?

The amount of information that is involved in the interpretation of a musical idea is massive and it has to be processed in real time . In order to achieve this, the brain must develop specialized structures, that can only be acquired by extensive and consistent Practice.

Practice, practice, practice....

But practice the right topic, at the right moment. There's a balance to be found, where practice will push your brain just enough to develop the necessary structures to understand and handle a certain skill. It is not a matter of more or less hours of practice, it is a matter of consistency, repetition and the right amount of complexity .
